"Proton Decay Matrix Elements on the Lattice"
Date : 12(Fri) December, 2025
Venue : Room 320, Baird Hall, Soongsil University
Speaker : Yoo Jun-Sik (IBS)
"Proton decay is one of the most striking predictions of grand unified theories (GUTs), providing a unique window into physics far beyond the reach of current accelerators. The experimental limits on proton lifetimes have improved dramatically through large-volume neutrino detectors, yet the interpretation of these bounds requires precise theoretical inputs for the hadronic matrix elements governing baryon-number–violating transitions. In this talk, I will review the current status of lattice QCD calculations of proton decay matrix elements, focusing on the techniques used to control systematic uncertainties and the connection between low-energy hadronic amplitudes and high-scale GUT operators. I will also discuss recent advances in renormalization, operator mixing, and the matching of lattice results to continuum effective field theories."
